rlogind not working on 7.3 Redhat

I have been beating my brains out trying to get either rlogin or telnet daemons running on my machine. When I try rlogining in from Solaris I get a connection refused error. Same for Telnet. When I try to manuall kick off the rlogind daemon I get an error saying "can't get peer name of remote host. socket operation on non-socket". Any ideas? Thanks, Paul

So you have enabled both of these with the appropriate scripts in /etc/xinetd.d then recycled the xinetd service and it still doesn't work ?

the wierd thing is that those scripts don't exist in that directory. There was a file or an output that I did that showed them as "on" though.
