Attempted my first install of RH 7.2 on a single-drive computer by using Partition Magic to create a linux partition on the last 6 GB of a 10 GB drive. I have Win98 on the front 4 GB and wanted to be sure I didn't lose anything. I'm also running Boot Magic as the loader program. So I told RH I didn't want to use lilo or grub, thinking Boot Magic would handle it. What I ended up with is Win98 as the only OS that Boot Magic knows about, and with the ability to start RH 7.2 using a boot diskette. Can I somehow get my boot loader (or remove it and use grub or lilo) so that I can select either OS at boot-up on the hard drive? Or should I just go back and remove RH 7.2 & re-install, this time placing the boot loader in the MBR? Thanks for help on this.
Boot into Linux using your floppy, and then use "man lilo.conf" to see how to set up a lilo.conf file (in /etc/lilo.conf) for your system. Once you have that set up, you can run the command /sbin/lilo and you will be all set.
Thanks for the reply, Barry... I looked up the man files for lilo.conf, but actually there is no /etc/lilo.conf Is it possibly on the boot floppy since my problem is that I have to use a floppy to boot linux? I'm still thinking of just reinstalling, but figured there oughta be another way.
