Most Linux Distributions have a tool to resize partitions built in with the install program. I have used Partition Magic before, and I haven't had any errors except when the drive has bad sectors or I didn't run scandisk and defrag before resizing. I would make sure these problems are not what is causing the error if I were you. Good Luck.
