Hello, I have a small problem and I hope that Unix poeple can help me up :)
I had Windows Xp and Redhat 9 on my machine, and since my new job requires me to work more on Windows and I got no more time to enjoy Linux, anyway, I got two hard drives:
1) Master = 4 GB (piece of s---)
2) Slave = 85 GB (maxtor)
I used my very old hard drive to install windows so if it crashed I lose nothing and formating doesn't tak much time, and my slave hard drive has Linux partitions and NTFS partition (which used to be VFAT). Now I stopped using Linux completely and I am running out of room on my slave hard drive and I need to format the SWAP and EXT3 partition into NTFS from within Windows XP so I don't have to delete my movies!!
Is it possible? if not, how can I get use of my full hard drive space without loosing my NTFS files!?

Thanks in advance

You can do that very easily.... but It would have been appropriate if you had this post in the windows section... ok no isues with that... here's what you can do... in windowsXP Start->ControlPanel->AdministrativeTools->DiskManagement in the window of Disk Management... in the left hand side lists click on the plus sign besides "Storage" then click on "Disk Management" now on the right hand side you'll see both of ur hard disks listed there.. and you'll see the drives.. you can find the ext3 and swap partitions as unknown partition... right click on that partition and after this u'll know what to do.... Have fun...

Two solutions:

Solution 1:
Go through
start->ControlPanel->Administrative Tools->Disk Management

click on "Storage"

click on "Disk Management"

right click on "Unknown" partition

"Delete" it

Now this becomes an unpartitioned space and you can create new partitions from it.

Solution 2:
This is a bit tougher.

Remove your master hard drive.

Make your hard drive with ext3 and swap partitions the master. Hope you know how to set the jumpers.

Boot from the Windows XP CD.

After going through some initial steps it will show you the partitions.

Select the "Unknown" partition and delete it by pressing d.

Now it becomes an unpartitioned space.

Create partitions from the unpartitioned space by pressing c.

Now select the new "raw" partition and press ENTER.

Format it using the default NTFS system.

Eject the Windows XP cd and shut down the machine after the format is complete and before windows setup starts copying files. This is a bit of cheating you may feel.

Make the hard disk slave again and
plug in the original master hard drive.

Now boot from the hard drive.

Hope it works and I am clear enough. Best of luck.
