Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on?? I have a strange problem that's been annoying me for a while now, and I can't seem to figure it out. Basically, any time I try to remotely access my Linux box such as through ssh (even telnet) my session freezes up if I try to do anything that has to display a lot of text. For instance, a long 'ls' or a long 'ps' command will freeze the window. Not even ctrl-c will break it.
I've run several other redhat versions, and now the newest 8, and it does it on all of them.
My setup is an AMD 450, 128m ram, 3com nic, inet connection is from swb DSL through a speedstream modem hooked to a Linksys DSL rounter.
My nic should be set to 100-full, and I haven't tweaked much on the network settings after this recent 8.0 install.
Any ideas?

dial up or vpn??
if vpn what wins settings (should be your isp)
try command with |less ( \with shift key and less)
this pipes the results and hopefully will keep it from freezing on you but allow you to pace the results

Thats the wierd thing about it. It doesn't appear to be any sort of speed issue because I'm not accessing it through dialup. I'm connected by ethernet from work, which is a fast 100 base connection. My server is connected through DSL.
Piping it will do no good, i've tried. Sometimes it even freezes after displaying only a line of characters!
Anyone with other ideas?

More than likely it's a problem with the settings on your NIC; there's a program (can't remember the exact name) that will allow you to change the settings on your card ('diag' something or another). If you can't find the program or don't want to go through the hassle, try a different NIC. Good luck, Dallas.
