I am trying to set up a Quad-boot with two hard drives. I have yet to format the second one. At this point I am trying to re install Windows over Unbuntu on my original drive. I have two cd's i am using, one is a copy and the other is a cd i got from someone that came with there computer. Neither of them will install because before windows will run it encounters a problem and ask me to check my drive or see if it is properly configured etc...My lack of computer knowledge has made it hard to totally understand the forums I've read thru so far. any help in layman terms would be awesome. I apologize if this lacks enuf info to get my issue across.Thanxs.

Exterminate all rational thought.

I suspect the problem is with grub or lilo. I think you need to completely wipe the drive first.
Perhaps someone else can explain better, you need to delete the partiton or zero fill.
A normal format will not clear grub.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

I'd start by posting the exact error. I suspect that your error is in some way correct and you have a drive issue.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

If you're not very computer savy, why are you attempting to setup a quad boot system? And which 4 operating systems to you plan to install? You need to plot your installation strategy.

Setting up a multiple boot configuration can be done ,,, However,,, instead of that why not just run virtual , Machines ? Would be a lot easier,,, VMware ,, or some other software,,,

With Linux, To reinstall windows,,, depending on whether it's lilo , or grub, for the boot manager simply getting a dos boot disk and doing an , fdisk mbr, should take care of the problem,,, Which windows version ??? from there should be good to go,,,

1 ) install windows first,,
2 ) install linux, ( choose partitions to install on )
3 ) install next linux version, ( choose partition to install on )

If you still have a problem , (trying to install windows ) after doing the " fdisk mbr " then you probably will need to completely wipe the hard drive, ,,, there are many utilities out there to do it,,, Depending on the drive ,,, You can go to the manufacturers website and download an installation utility to format , zero fill, the drive,

A live cd,,

Might help ,,,

Well !! Don't know what you know or don't know,,, but hope that you find the solution ,,, and hope this helps ,,, somewhat,,, Have Fun at it Huh !! Learning to do it and taking the time to search around and find answers can be time consuming,,, but in the End ,, You'll know ,, YOU can Do It !!!

MSI 845e mb 1 gb ram and a p4 2.4n running fedora 7 xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!
