hello,
I hope there is someone who might be able to assist me on this. I'm still learning to walk my way through linux, running Fedora Core 2. My Installation CD's got lost and recently I forgot [ :( ] my root password to the mysql database. I thought removing mysql database server and re-installing it would solve the problem since reading numerous posts on the internet still could not point me to the solution because it kept giving me the following error

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)

My question is how I can get back the database running as I need it quite badly coz I need a project done. If anyone could point me as to how to reinstall because I downloaded all the rpms and it still did not launch.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Michael

I don't know about mysql, but with postgresql there is a database administrator user called postgres. If you are logged in as root you can su to postgres without the need for a password and administer the database from there, eg add/edit users, create databases etc....
