Comment:

I have a 60GB hard drive with only one partition running Win2K Pro. I would like to re-format and partition the hard drive and I need some suggestions regarding the size of the partitions to have Win2K and Linux installed.

Thank you.

It depends partly on which programs you want to use in each operating system.

Suggestion:

Create 3 x 20GB partitions.

1- NTFS for Win2K

1- Linux

1- FAT32 for data storage that can be shared by the two OS's. (Windows programs also).

Hope it works out OK!

There's a good change your BIOS will not allow you to boot past cylinder 1023. Therefore, I would make a small boot partition for linux to make sure it gets in before the 1023rd cylinder, and also make the first windows partition smaller to make sure to squeeze in before that cylinder. It depends on the configuration of your physical hard drive, but I think you have about 15GB before you pass that cylinder. So make like an 8 Gig windows drive (that should be plenty for most stuff, if you need more you can use the storage drive, no prob), a 500Meg boot partition for linux, and then a 128Meg swap partition for linux, and another 8 Gig main partition for linux, and use the rest for storage however you want to use it. Chances are most of your programs will fit fine in 8 gigs. You may need more than 8 for storage, but the arrangement I gave you gives you well over 40 G of storage space to partition as you see fit. Good luck
