Gents: Having installed RedHat_8.0 I decided to attach a well-supported printer (Epson CS/777) which printer had previous worked OKey in SusE_7.3. First I turn on the printer, then boot RedHat. Though Kudzu detected the printer on boot, several subsequent printing attempts failed in silence. No printing & no error messages. Then I applied the 'printer conf' tool ( asigning LPR? ) in the GUI. The tool seemed to know nothing till I entered values ... so much for the value of Kudzu! Anyrate, now it gets hairy! When I then tried a test page-print I got an unending explosion of alpha-numeric garbage page-after-page - ... A monster rogue process ... My hasty retreat to SU & Kill -9 refused to stop the pages -- till I turned off the printer. I could kill the process(?) but not the printing! HALTing the system, it "failed" to kill the print_pids !!! The evil undead processes show up in RED as the computer shuts down!!! On subsequent reboots, tho an ending ps -ax shows NO print processes living, the rogue printing returns as soon as the computer and printer are turned on!!! I have NO/SOME/ALL??? of a configured printer, and an evil alien behavior has taken it over. I've sharpened a wooden stake --- and surrounded the box with garlic cloves. But seriously, holy cOWS ! What to do ?? Oh yeah, with supplied hardware drivers, the Epson777 works just fine on my WinME box.
