Hi,

Does any body know how much RAM Redhat Linux 9 can handle? I have machine with 1024M of DDR RAM NT installed. If I take out 512M of RAM it works fine but Redhat Lunix 9 crushes with 1024M of RAM. Just to make sure nothing wrong with the RAM I have tried both RAM sticks independently. There is no problem running Redhat Linux 9. Any idea? Thanks.

that should not happen as boot 512 and 1024 is LOWMEM in linux (it can take many GBs as HIGHME)

where exactly does your system crash? Are there any messages? Open /var/log/messsages and see if anythings there about the crashing. Please give any messages that are there to me and email if me this messages goes to far down the list.

Well, with 1024M RAM I was not able to install Redhat Linux 9 at all. I was getting "signal 11" very begining of the installation. The "signal 11" came right when
Redhat Linux 9 tries to see what kind of the system has. Then it aborted the installation process. I took out one the memory stick whick is 512M and installed Linux 9. It is working fine. As I said before
I tried with both memory stick independently. I didn't have any problem running Linux 9. Is there any test that I can perform to make sure both memory sticks are good? It has to be 100% before I could return the RAM. Thanks.

look what I found:

http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/

thats a FAQ about signal 11s...

I'm not sure, but I think either your motherboard is bad or you have really cheap ram. Is that a branded system you've got?
