I am very interested in learning to use Linux. I have spent a considerable amount of time working with Red hat 5.0 and Bill Ball's teach yourself Linux and an old 486. I have enjoyed every minute of it and intend to continue using linux.

My question is.. Are the newer versions of linux so much different that my efforts are going to waist? Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to approach this in a way that will allow me to fully understand what this system is capable of. I have very little knowledge of the systems I use from day to day (win 95 win ME) yeah I know how to get around in them however I dont know them. Just looking for input on how to approach linux as a beginner, not only to Linux but to operating systems as a whole.

Thank you all. Lance

Well done Lance. I'm running RH 6.2 on a 486 with 32 megs of ram and 1.2 gig hdd running the blackbox window manager. You seem to be approaching this in a good way, learning the command line(I'm a Gui guy myself-problems typing;). 6.2 I beleive was a big jump forward for linux. No your efforts are not going to waist. Keep it up.
