can someone post a website that can help me setup redhat 6.1 on a cable modem thanks for any replies.

There is no definitive way to answer your question; it depends on your ISP and your hardware. In general though:
The first thing you have to do is get your network card talking to the cable modem, if it isn't already. After that, you need to know whether you connect to your ISP via DHCP or a static IP. If you're behind a gateway/firewall, that begs more questions.
Try the Ethernet HOW-TO and the Cable Modem HOW-TO at www.linuxdoc.org. These are pretty general documents, so they may not address all of your questions, but they *are* a start.
If you don't find a solution there, repost here with more info:
- make/model of your network card
- which module it is trying to use
- has your ISP assigned you a static IP, or do they use DHCP.
- if DHCP, do you have the DHCP client installed
- are you behind any sort of firewallAlso, if you haven't gotten to the point where you know your NIC is working, check out the troubleshooting steps I posted in this thread:

Check this page out, it goes through the process of setting up a cable modem on a linux machine.
