Don't use X much so can't comment on KDE and the menu's etc. Will give it a try though. I have been happy with RH8 so far with only things I would like to see chaged : 1) The ISO need to be labeled better (eg CD1-inst, CD2-suppl, CD5-doc etc) 2) Problems with AMD hardware sorted out
My installation of RedHat 8 on a AMD K6-2 was a disaster and failed completely with kernel panics before even getting going.
After much googling I found a solution that I would like to share for the benefit of any others experiencing the same hassles.
Symptoms : Kernel panic with : EXT2-fs = unable to read SuperBlock CramFS : Wrong Magic FAT : unable to read boot sector
My solution :
From the install prompt : linux mem=nopentium x86_serial_nr=1 text
This worked for me - anyone have a better solution?

I had a similar problem using 7.3. After a lot of googling I found that some motherboard chipsets (AMD that is) seem to screw up the installation giving the errors you described. My solution was to switch of power management in the bios and it has been happy ever since.
Just have to see what upgrading to 8 does tomorrow......

I'm running an AMD K6 II with power mgmt shut off in the bios and Red Hat 8.0. Never had a problem loading 8.0. I've been running RH 7.x and didn't have a problem there either.
