Use bootable floppy of linux. att the boot: prompt write "linux single" (without quotes)
then you will got # prompt use passwd root to modify password of delpasswd root to remove pasword form linux.

redhat 7.2 has lilo and grub i recall... if you choosed grub you can get into the GRUB-shell(dont know how to do that) when in the grub-shell you can type #kernel /boot/bzImage -s to boot into single user mode. then you can just type passwd to enter the new root-password
