Comment:

i've tried 3 different kinds of mice

1.Microsoft Optical wheel mouse (PS/2)
2.Logitech pilot wheel mouse (PS/2)
3.Logitech mouse (PS/2)

during installatin of Redhat 7.1 and each time after completing the installation when i boot the system linux doesn't detect my mouse (no mouse at all!!)

during the boot up when linux reaches the point
....
....
Checking for new hardware..
...

it starts kudzu (Hardware discovery Utility) which displays the follwoing mesg.

"The following hardware has been removed from your system":
"Generic 3 button Mouse (PS/2)"

its so weird as i've installed Linux atleast 3 times chaning the mouse but now i'm sure that there is nothing wrong with mouse types but sth that prevents linux from detecting mouse in the first place (let alone the type of it!)

because of the absense of mouse in the system after i configure my X i can not start it. When i type startx it gives me the folloging error:

Fatal Server error:
Can't open mouse (Device or resource busy)

does anyone 've some idea what could be the problem with my system. Thanks!

Usman.

Have you tried mouseconfig or configmouse? Don't remember which one it was. Make sure you are logged in as root when you run it.

I have the same problem with RH 7.2. The mouse works during the install and every thing is great until the post-install reboot. I suspect there is a package I have selected for installation that is killing my mouse on reboot. I fgirstsuspected gpm, but it will not start for the same reason X will not start.
If anyone know what causes this, please email me.

THX
