I installed RedHat Linux 7.1 on a 1.5 GB partition on my PC. The installation went off well. Towards the end, when I entered the horizontal and vertical values supported by my monitor, followed by the settings I wanted for 8 bit and 16 bit display. Despite my conservative settings -- well within the limits of my monitor -- X doesn't start. The screen blanks out while I test the config and the machine hangs. Tried Xconfigurator. Same result.
Interestingly, the same settings work perfectly with RedHat 6.2.
Can somebody help, please?

Be more conservative and progres is on the way ...
We, Linux users today, are the speer-head of what is going to be 'the future' and 'the end' of win$ows therefor conservatism is out of the question!
wich X server are you using? the 4x or 3x the new X-server, 4x that is, should be able to get your graphical interface up & runing, just be sure about your monitor's refreshing rate if is has a Max. of 75 Hertz dont go over it otherwise your monitor will be history.
don't forget to install XFREE86, selected from RPM.
Try to read the man pages until it is clear what is going on about 'X'
sucses!

Thanx for responding, Tramp. My horizontal settings are 30-50 and the vertical ones 50-70. My monitor is TVM AS4Dp.
These settings work well in RedHat 6.2. I saw XFREE86 being installed.
What beats me is why something that works perfectly in 6.2 doesn't work in 7.1.
As for what X server I am using, I have no clue. Sorry.
Further tips welcome.
