you have to configure ip forwarding or proxy server. for ip forwarding you have to make you linux box as router.serach the net for "ip forwarding" you will get the way.
if you are doing proxy server, make sure squid is installed on your pc. edit /etc/squid/squid.conf file and just uncomment the line #http_port 3128 (remove #), ..this will allow you to use linux box's 3128 port to act as a proxy, you can change the default port no to anything like 80,8080, there is something line "deny all" make it to "allow all", search net for "squid proxy settingts" for other changes in squid.conf.
put nameserver's of your isp in /etc/resolve.conf.
restart network & squid service (better restart your pc) open the browser of XP machin add the Proxy setting in browser. ie. IP address of Linux machin with port no (ie 3128 or as you specified) note:do not forget to set gateway to linux box and ip addresss for both machines.

this should work.
Try it, on your request i can send you ready configured proxy settings.
