I have an intermidiate knowledge of Linux .Used Knoppix Live cd & learn a lot from it.
Now i want to switch to a product from which i can learn more about linux operating system after installing Linux on the hard drive.Madrake Linux 10
Red Hat Linux 9there are two flavours which are use in the linux community . Now what do you suggest that which one should i choose.Though both are good & solid but what features Red Had over Mandrake & vice virsa.
My system is 450Mhz 128 MB ram & 15 GB Hard disk.
Thanks in advance.

If the point of this is to learn more about Linux, I'd suggest Redhat over Mandrake because you have to do more to it to get to the level of polish that already exists in Mandrake.
Don't bother with Redhat 9 though 'cause it's old. Go grab Fedora Core 3.

If all you are interested in is to learn Linux then I would suggest Gentoo. It gets to the nitty gritty of the OS.
The good thing about it is that it has the best installation hand book of ANY OS with an excellent community forum to guide you.And as a bonus it is tailor made for YOUR pc, making it extremely fast system.
The down side is it can take upto 3 days to compile and install.
Get your hands dirty and enjoy

Either will be ok. re responce 1 the fedora legacy project has updates for RH9 (nd RH7.2-which I use on a daily basis) There is no right or wrong answer. BTW original poster there are a lot more than the 2 distros you listed used by the Linux community.......

Red Hat enterprise edition is Not free, however Fedora Core, which for all intents and purposes, is test ground for Red Hat enterprise is free. In other words Fedora core is the free version of RED HAT.
But as Hmmm said there is more to Linux then just Red Hat and Mandrake. Check out the link below
