Red Hat Linux Display Problem

I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 8. I duell installed RHL 8 and Win XP. I am very happy with it yet there is a MAJOR display problem with RHL 8. I have a Sony Multiscan 2000GS. Compared with XP the colors are dim and fuzzy. I know this because whenever I boot to XP the monitor "comes to life" or something close. Does anybody know how to properly configure RHL 8 to properly use the monitor? Maybe I need a new 64MB 3D Vidio card? The Driver is Trident CyberBlade(Generic). Or is this the downside of RHL 8? Maybe some other distro of Linux is batter for my monitor?

Assuming you are getting the maximum resolution out of the monitor using RH8, see what your color depth is it should be in the file /etc/X11/XF86Config. See if it is atleast 16 ie..DefaultColorDepth 16, close to the bottom the file.

In my /etc/X11/XF86Config file I can't find "DefaultColorDepth". However I do not get maximum resolution from my monitor because I set it to 800X600 in both RHL 8 and Win XP, yet XP runs my monitor much batter. I did try setting my monitor to the max and it worked but everything(text,icons,browser,emacs) was very small. Thats why I prefer 800X600 everthing is large.My question was how can I get the same quality of color and sharpness of charecters at 600X800 in Linux as I do in Win XP? Sorry for the confussion.
