Comment:

I am a newbie of Linux.
I just finished to install RedHat Linux9 at Compaq Prolint 1600.

The problem now is the screen can not display.
I have tried the following method
1)Boot with boot disk
2)using command linux 3 to start
3)issue command to lanch X configuration Tool "redhat-config-xfree86"
4)the GUI display, and i go to "Advanced" Tab to click the "config" button to change the monitor. however, I go back to text mode suddenly.

Question:
1)Why the screen go back to text mode suddenly?
2)Can I config the monitor in GUI ?
3)if not, what command do i need to issue to config the monitor horizontal/vertical frequency in text mode?

Thank you for answering me

You can edit /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) and change the horizontal/vertical frequency there in text mode. If you are unfamiliar with a *nix editor (eg vi or emacs) I suggest you try mcedit which is easy to use and a little like dos edit.

Which model do you have? CDP1530(M)S, CDP5000S or CDP5050V? You also want the entries like:
HorizSync 30.0-85.0
VertRefresh 50.0-120.0
Note: those figures are for my monitor...not yours.
