Any linux hot dogs in here:
Does anybody know what version of the Linux Kernel is Included with the Red Hat Linux 7.2.1 (Itanium) distribution? Also, anybody with Red Hat experience. What are the minimum system requirements and recommended system requirements to install and run Red Hat 7.2.1 provided by Red Hat; I did not find this on their support pages. What would you say are realistic system requirements for Redhat 7.2.1, command-line only and with a desktop gui.
Thanks for any info you have.

Sorry, I can't tell ya what the exact kernel version shipped with Redhat 7.2.1 is, other than 2.4, and the same goes for actual minimum system requirements. However, having run Redhat 7.3, I would say that 64 Meg RAM is a practical minimum for a command-line only installation, and 128 for an X-Windows version (I think that's what the Redhat 7.3 retail box recommendations were, too).
Although, I have recently installed (for a friend) Redhat 8 on a Pentium 100 with 48 Meg of RAM as a server, and it works just fine. It did take some work, though, paring it down, removing anything extraneous from the system's configuration.
For a full installation, you'll need at least 4 gig of disk space. If it's going to simply be a server or a desktop box, then you can easily cut that in half, though.
As far as CPU speed is concerned, it's all up to your tolerance level, really. I think you'll need at least a Pentium or compatible, though.
Good luck.

Have a look through the installation CDs
for kernel-2.x.x.x.rpm, kernel-headers....,
kernel-source.... etc and it should give
you a clue.
Alternatively, start the install, switch to
another console and type:
$ uname -r
