Hi, I haven't used linux to much and so I wanted to try it out on a computer that I don't really use anymore. It is a Pentium 2 300 mhz with 96 mb of ram. I got it to boot from the cd just fine, I tested all three cds using the utility at the beginning of the install and all three cds passed. Now when I go to install linux I get through all the configuration steps and then it begins installing linux. Now my problem is that when Linux begins to install it will go along just fine for a while, but then for some reason it will hang, not always in the same place, though common places are when it installs perl, and the very first file. I have let it sit there all day and it won't continue, I have restarted multiple times and it still hangs. I have specified at the begining of the install that I have 96 mb of ram (when it says press enter for graphical install or type 'linux text' for text install I type 'linux mem=95MB'). Anyone have any ideas of what could be going wrong. I don't think it's the cds since they pass the tests. I already deleted the iso's, but would an install from the iso's work? I would be willing to download them again if that would fix the problem. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

since there is some question about the CD,
checkout cheapbytes.com. You can get Mandrake 8.2 (possibly 9.0) for ~$10 including shipping.

Well, since I got a free cd of mandrake 7.2 with a book on linux I bought, I guess I will try that. I wanted to use Red Hat since that is the version we use in the class I am enrolled in, but they shouldn't be too diferent should they?
