I have stripped my system down so that there was nothing left but:
1gig intel
512 ram
40 meg (blank) hard drive
40x cdrom
Radeon video card
and a plane jane keyboard.

I've used my cd's on a different system and they worked.

Basically, it boots up, and the minute the initial text screen comes up, the computer locks up. (at least the keyboard does)

Like I said, I had a lot of cards in the system, but I took them all out thinking it may be conflicting.

Let me know if you have any ideas or need anymore information.

Thanks

When you say the "initial text screen", do you mean after the boot screen (where the "boot:" prompt is)?, or do you get past that and it locks as the kernel is loading?

If you can get to the boot screen, try typing "text" in case the problem is your video card.

If that's not the issue, then maybe try disabling usb in the bios (sounds strange, I know...but try it).

Yes, it locks at the "boot:" prompt. And it won't let me type anything. (keyboard locked up). I did try turning off USB, mainly because I originally had a logitech cordless USB keyboard. So that didn't work either.

I tried looking at the HCL and only found partial clues.

Biostar system board: nothing
AGP ATI Radeon: questionable (could this be it?)
Memorex CD: nothing
Intel PIII: Certified

Swapping the video card is the only thing I haven't tried. I'll try to dig up an old card. Let me know if this sparks anything.

Thanx

Okay, change of plans, it wasn't just RedHat. It will not even boot to a DOS disk. and now that my xp has had a boot interupted and it's at the safe mode boot screen, that one locks up to.

My system froze, too. I have Abit KAT7 motherboard. I discovered that having hard drive connected to HPT caused it to freeze. Use only the regular ide drives and it will not freeze. However, after installation I have a problem with Linux freezing up randomly in GNOME. Mouse moves about okay but everything else freezes. I have to crash system to regain control. I'm about ready to go back to 7.0 because I never had all these freezing problems.
