Hi all,
Decided to upgrade my Red Hat 6.2 box; I downloaded v7.2 from redhat.com. Popped Cd 1 of 2 into my hard drive and booted. I go ahead and choose "Expert" installation when prompted. The installation proceeds smoothly until I get the following:
Attempting to start native X Server
........... X server started successfully
Traceback (innermost last):
File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 477, in ?
from splashscreen import splashscreenshow
File "/usr/lib/anaconda/splashscreen.py", line 21, in ?
from gtk import *
File "/usr/lib/python1.5/site_packes/gtk.py", line 29, in?
-gtk.gtk_init()
Runtime error: cannot open display
install exited abnormallyThe CD then ejects and I'm told I can reboot safely.
Any ideas as to what's going on? Bad 7.2 distribution, perhaps?
Thanks in advance,
Gabe

i suggest that you install the upgrade, but do not run X as a test during the installation (skip this option). then after the installation, you can run X and test it...

Thanks for the tip, help-ah. How can I skip the option to run "X" during the installation? I don't recall seeing an option to turn this on/off.
Thanks,
Gabe

Hi I am having the same problem . . .
But i am not doing an upgrade . . .
I allready installed in text mode ..
but when my computer boot it hang up !!

You wil have to install in text mode, and choose lilo file system.
the problem is your video card … after install linux, you will have to conf. your card with Xconfigurator or edit the XFree86.conf and disable video acceleration.
See you ….Augusto Becker Jucá
