Aloha~
I have got a question on RedHat 7.1 and hope some of you can suggest me a solution. (I am new to linux, haha)

Actually I have the same problem as this
http://www.computing.net/linux/wwwboard/forum/2775.html

I follow the suggestions and boot the system up with Tom's Boot disk. I mounted my linux / partition onto the directory /mnt, and I could edit the /mnt/ect/lilo.conf and modify the file by setting the correct partition to be mounted as /.
Then when I attempt to re-run /sbin/lilo, there is an error of the non-existence of /etc/lilo.conf as I have mounted the root to /mnt, so I cannot update the LILO.
Also, I cannot mount the linux partition to / as it is occupied by the ram0.

Can anyone sincerely provide me a solution which can update the LILO while the root is mounted somewhere else but not in the /?
Or another method to overcome the Kernal Panic I am having?

Thank you very much.

Just use the command "chroot /mnt" to change it.

I use to have this problem because I always experiment moving HD with linux in it. If you start in lilo, you could always type in "linux root=/dev/hdaX rw" (where hdaX is your root partition) ** rw stands for read-write (if I am not mistaken). then you can do your changes in your lilo. (I use linuxconf instead). If you have loadlin in dos partition, you can boot faster by typing "loadlin vmlinuz root=/dev/hdaX rw".. (vmlinuz is your kernel image).. ## Keep trying !!!
