hi, i want to recompile my kernel. i just installed mandrake 8.0. I looked on linuxnewbie.org on how to recompile, but it tells me something about the linux folder in usr/src. I can't seem to find it, all i have is the rpm folder. I am new to linux, please help. I was thinking of compiling a new kernel as well
thanks

I was able to make a symbolic link called linux, and have another folder called linux-2.4.6. Now i want to configure my kernel but i for some reason i can't run the make xconfig command in /usr/src/linux. It says make: command not found. Any suggestions?

Hi,
It sounds like you need to install the make package.
The make package is located on either cd 1 or cd2 of the Mandrake 8 installation cds.
running: ls make*
from your the /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS dir
should show the make rpm file.
Next you'll need to install it.You'll need to be root to install the rpm,
su - root should do the trick
followed by: rpm --install make*rpm
I hope this helps you out.AndyH :)
