I am (extremely) new to Linux and have decided to go with Puppy Linux, because I think it was the only thing that would work on my REALLY old laptop. The main reason I use my laptop for is to use Remote Desktop Connection on Windows XP to connect to my computer. I don't know if it is possible to connect use Puppy Linux to connect to my Windows XP computer. If it is, could you give me a detailed guide on how to? I have tried Google to no success. Thanks!

There is an RDP client build in Puppy called rdesktop.
Use rdesktop -h for help.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

What are the specs of the laptop, especially the RAM amount? There may be a better option than Puppy.

Okay, my laptop specs are as follows:

IBM thinkpad t20
P III 501 MHZ processor
128 MB RAM memory
12 GB Hard Drive

Like I said before, Ubuntu won't work on it. For some reason, i can only run Puppy from the live CD and I can't install it.

There are also some thin client things like 2x stuff.

Puppy and DSL and a few other lightweight distros offer rdesktop and vnc ssh.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Does DSL use the GRUB thing because the installation worked fine up until I tried installing Puppy on my laptop.

Grub is unlikely to be a problem. More of how old the system is. Usually a syslinux isolinux issue. Real old you might have to boot with lilo or put lilo on the partition booted by grub.
