what video card do u have? are you using the proper drivers for it? if you have a nvidia card, they are very easy to install, but its harder if you have an ati card. try getting the drivers and then running it if you dont already.

I'm guessing that you need a card and drivers with OpenGL support, not sure if you card does. If you start it from the command line, do you get any errors?

Just open up a terminal window in X (like a command prompt box in windoze) and try running the command from there. You may have to buy a better graphics card such as an ATI or nVidia.

I am no expert. I have seen this before. Are you running Urban Terror? If yes, their site (http://www.UrbanTerror.net) covers how to handle this, but the solution only applies if you are running Urban Terror.
Good Luck!
