Hi,

I have a few questions that I would like ask. Any helpful answer is much appreciated.

1. How to mount a DVDrom? Is it possible to automount them during the booting? How to play a music CD or DVD?

2. How to create a symbolic link (if possible, icon) on desktop for the programs that are just installed?

Assuming your DVD-ROM is also your CD-ROM drive, then simply do this at a command prompt to mount it:

# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

To get it to automount upon boot, remove the "noauto" portion in /etc/fstab. Enter "man fstab" at a command prompt for more info.

To play DVDs, I typically use Ogle, but sometimes use mplayer; others swear by Xine. Make sure you download the module for decryption as most DVDs will require it. Redhat 9 probably doesn't include this module as there are legal issues (may not be legal in your country).

You should be able to find a CD Player in the menu list in the gui under Sound & Video or something similar.

Creating a link on the desktop is done by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing "New Launcher" (Gnome) or "New Link to an Application" (KDE) or something similar.

Good luck.
