I have installed Red Hat 7.1 several times and I keep getting the same error at the end of installation….(Warning hdf1 is not the first device on the disk) I can only boot into Red Hat with the boot disk and I have tried different settings on LILO like making it hdf2 or hdf3 ect and I keep getting the same error. I have also tried making LILO boot first sector of the root partition instead of making it the MRB. I have even installed Red Hat without LILO at all and this doesn't bring up an error at the end of installation but it still won't boot. When its trying to boot all is says is BootCD: BootCD and then nothing happens.
Anybody got any Ideas??
Thx

hdf? You're installing RH to the fourth hard drive in your system then, right.
Please post your system configuration, especially your drive configuration (i.e.: types of drives installed, size, where each is connected on the IDE channels). Also, how are you partitioning hdf during the install? List your partition layout (e.g., hdf5= /, hdf6= /boot, hdf8=swap, etc.).

Correction: hdf would be the *sixth* IDE device in your system, which I doubt is correct. As I suggested, post your system configuration. Also, are you doing a workstation install, or a custom install?

OK guys I have finally figured out some of the problems. First the raid Ide channels were causing some problems and I switched it to the regular IDE channel and I finally got Mandrake 8.0 installed. But still no luck on Red Hat. I only have one hard drive and its the first IDE device so why would it be saying hdf??? I am using custom install and I have system commander installed in order to easily boot into multiple operating systems. I have been creating the linux partions with system commander and then creating the mount points on the installation. Anybody have any other ideas?? (partion layout was hdf4= /, hdf5= /boot, hdf6=swap I think but it would always change to something different but thats what it was according to LILO last time I checked)
Thanks again for the help
