I have SuSE 7.1 professional installed on P3 933/128/60 a 20gig partition. I have installed MySQL from rpm. I tried starting MySQL using safe_mysql & command. I get error after it starts daemon (can't find directory /var/local/err.marge(host).) Then it stops daemon. I'm not sure if I installed it corectly. After I install it from GNOME rpm do I need to do anything or does the installation put all the files in the right directory.
does the sql user have permissions in the directory which is producing the error? with sql you definitely need to check the permissions and passwords for the sql user.
