Problem with console switching in R

I used to be able to switch between text console and graphical UI by pressing (ctrl+alt+f1/f7). All of a sudden I got this problem: after I switch to text-based console and work for a few minutes, the system automatically switches back to graphic UI and asks me to login again (although I logged in before and switched to text console from there by pressing ctrl+alt+f1). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? thanks a lot.

It looks to me like X (graphical interface) crashed and therefore is restarting. When it restarts, it gets "focus" so you are moved to the graphical interface. Try to find out why X is crashing. Check /var/log/XF*log (there could be more than one log) Or check the file .xsession-errors in the home directory of the user that was logged in.
