i burned a cd-r using a windows XP, when i read the cd-r using linux, only few of the files can be downloaded to linux, the rest will cause errors. If i read the same cd-r on other window XP computers, everything is find. why?

What kind of files are on the CD?
when you say downloaded, do you mean copied over, or read from the CD?
Assuming you can access the files, if they're Windows type files, you won't be able to read them with any linux application.
This is also the case with some .avi, .divx and .mpeg files which use windows-specific codecs.
If you can't see/copy the files from the CD at all, it may be that the CD was not finalised/fixated after burning.

That isn't a problem I have had. *All* of my CD-Rs were burned in XP (including those for RH 7.2 itself, which replaced it, and XFree86 4.2.0, which I upgraded to for graphics support for my AIW Radeon 8500DV). Here are the three points to consider when burning CDs in XP (in fact, any OS), that will be read by another OS (or even another PC):
1. Burn no faster than 4X for maximum compatibility between PCs (and OSes as well).
2. If using Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, do *not* use DirectCD to copy files for quick burns; use the Send To Writable CD functionality in XP instead. (In addition to being able to custom-name CDs, you should adjust the speed of your burns here also to 4X, even if your CD-RW writes faster. You'll also gain the additional plus of being able to burn in the background.)
3. Seriously consider switching to Nero Burning ROM (or at least adding the demo to your burning arsenal). The latest version is always available at http://www.nero.com and http://www.ahead.de.
