ok here i go..sorry for the long post, I have tried many thing before I posted this.

I have a P III 1 GHZ Toshiba Magnia 510D

I am running windows xp on a 60 gb Hdd with a 5gb (NTFS) partition. I also have a 30 gb (FAT32) partition and the end of the hhd that I store my data.

My partitions look like this:
/dev/hda -> entire hdd (60 GB)
/dev/hda1 -> NTFS (5 GB)
/dev/hda2 -> FAT32 (30 GB) [At end of drive]
/dev/hda3 -> Extended Partition (6 GB)
/dev/hda5 -> /boot (500 MB)
/dev/hda6 -> (500 MB)
/dev/hda7 -> / (5 GB)

I want to run Red Hat 7.2. So I boot from the CD. I do the basic steps. I MAKE SURE to select the LILO boot loader and choose to install in the first section of the boot partition (hda5). I make formart the drives and install the packages. I make the boot floopy and boot into the Red hat 7.2 I login as root. I do the "dd if=/dev/hda5 of=bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1". I then copy it to aDOS boot disk then copy it to the root of my C partition. I edit the boot.ini and added the line at the end of the boot.ini file c:\bootsect.lnx="linux"
I save the file and reboot with all the attribute changed and when I choose "linux" all I get is a a flashing cursur.

I can sucessfully boot into XP and I can successfully boot in Red hat with the boot disk but I can't get a dual boot option.

Any help will be more than appreciated.Please e-mail me with any DETAILED documentation

OK, try:

1) Boot Linux from the floppy.

2) cd to /etc

3) Edit lilo.conf. Make sure:
boot=/dev/hda5 (*not /dev/anythingelse)

4) issue 'lilo -v'

5) Shutdown and try reboot again.

HTH, Guy
