PPPD is terrible. It makes internet connection over a modem slow and painful. Are there any other PPP drivers under linux that work much better? or am I stuck using windows to surf the web.

What distribution do you have? On my pc (muLinux), I type ppp-on. This starts a shell script that dials in to my internet provider. You have to configure the scripts to set the phone #, your member name and password, etc. In Xwindow, type netcfg. :-)

Obviously you don't know linux that well. Despite what you may type, you are using PPPD to connect to the internet. If you don't believe me, type ps -A after you have connected and PPPD will be in the list. If you kill it, you get disconnected... What I need is a better PPP dr iver, not a different interfact to it.
