What type of message do you mean? You can always use One of the IM clients out there... or do you mean something that sends system messages like WINPOPUP?

yea thats right, a window that will pop up to the win users in front of their face, and they will need to pish the ok botton .... (-:

With the smbclient -G usrname
verify with: man smbclient for a lot of options and how to use it.
smbclient itself cannot send a broadcast, then you have to build a small script to do it.

well Danny smbclient is not the best solution because u can only send to 1 user at a time and in is limited to win 2000, xp not to 9x, and only to samba clients... i know there is another way 2 do it, may be with a third party utility tnx anyway ronen

I believe the syntax is smbclient -M "message here"
However, it does not work between my linux box (smbclient 2.0.8) and my windows 2000 box. Reply is "session request failed". I'd like to use this to have my linux box notify my windows workstation when it is done doing tape backups. Does anybody know if this is a windows permission problem?
