I have most of the X windows packages installed in Tiny except for Xbin which is too big to fit on a floppy. I actually used Winrar to extract the files from xbin.tgz to several floppies. I copied the extracted files on the floppies onto a directory in Linux. The problem is I can't figure out how to get pkgtool to install Xbin. Is there a way to get Pkgtool to install Xbin if all the files from the origional TGZ file are in a directory on the harddrive? Otherwise, anybody have other suggestions on how to get xbin onto my thinkpad without networking or using a CD drive? (355CS has no CD, modem not functioninal, I dont' think Lap Link cable would work if I had one because the computer I'm using now is windows only) Otherwise can I manually copy the files into the necesary directories? Please be detailed in response since I am still very new to Linux. Also keep in mind that my primary desktop runs Windows only (I can't afford to spare it to install linux right now).

I think Tiny is based on Slackware which
also uses pkgtool to install software. The
tgz file contains the files and locations,
if you extract it from the root of your file
system ( / ) then all the files will go into
the right place, that is basically what
pkgtool does. If you look at the tgz with
winrar you will see directories like usr,
etc and another called install. The install
directory just contains the description so
you can ignore it. Look into the others and
you will see the directory structure,
eg /usr/bin, /usr/doc, /usr/man etc. Make a
note of which file goes where and copy it
there by hand.

Perhaps a better way would be to use split
to chop the original tgz file into floppy
sized chunks and then use cat to put it back
together on the target machine. You could
then use pkgtool to install it.
