I too await in line for the never to be released linux driver for the BT Voyager 100 usb modem. I currently run a dual boot windows/ RH 9.0 configuration. I need the RH 9.0 as I am a student doing a BSC in software development (2nd year). Enough of me though and onto the reason why there will never be a linux driver forthcoming from BT.

Read this:

An alliance between BT and the UK arm of Microsoft's net service will allow subscribers to run the MSN web service on top of a broadband connection, reported the BBC News. This pioneering deal will thus allow both partners to cross promote each other's services. The alliance marks a change from currently common all-in-one net services which combine access, e-mail accounts and other extras. Just as with America Online (AOL), users pay a monthly fee to use MSN 8 that includes spam filters, e-mail managing software, and other tools. A monthly subscription for MSN 8 costs £6.99. MSN will still be operated as a free portal but Microsoft is offering more to people who subscribe. The MSN/BT deal uses high-speed net connections to make it more convenient to get at content such as the Encata encyclopaedia. Consumers will have to pay for BT broadband and MSN separately, but from January 2003 the two services will be cross-promoted as a package.

Penny dropped then? BT will never support the open source OS's and you can save your arthritic fingers by not sending them polite emails to support Linux. If you have the time and money to consult a lawyer, however, or, even better, if you are a computer savvy lawyer, it would be interesting to know the legal grounds on which BT can deny it's user access to the internet via Linux whilst having such a cosy relationship with Microsoft. In the US don't MS get sued big time for such nefarious behaviour ?????

What kind of a modem is it? Maybe it works
with the ACM driver? Or maybe serial
emulation using usb-serial?
