I am trying to set up an Onstream DI-30 tape drive under Redhat 7.3.
This IDE drive is loaded as a scsi drive (hdd=ide-scsi) and is (apparently) on my system as /dev/sg.

So here's the problem. Whenever I try to to anything with the device like write to it or rewind it, I get a message saying that permission is denied.
For instance, at the command line I typed:

/bin/mt -f /dev/sg0 rewind

the response was /dev/sg0: Permission denied
I'm logged in as root, so what gives?
