Hi, I was succesful in installing RehHat Linux 8.0 on my Sony Vaio PCG-GR250. The only problem I get is when I boot up and it gets to the part where it test the loop back for the network card. For some reason it just stays hanging. I have to reboot boot and go into the "interactive" mode in order to bypass that part. I also have a problem with the PCMCIA service as well; it tries to start the PCMCIA service and it just hangs. For now I surviving the boot up errors by disabling them from starting.

Has anyone out there had this problem with Sony Viao Laptops? And what did you do to fix it? I really don't care about the built in network card the laptop has. What I really want is the PCMCIA service to work so I can use my SMC wireless card. If I can get that going then i'm good to go.

Vic, I run Mandrake 9.0 with a vanilla kernel 2.4.20 + ACPI + SWSUSP and everything works on my system. However, I have a VAIO R505DL. The best place to find out about VAIO's and LINUX is to visit this list repository and sign up or just peruse the archives:

Good luck....
