Iv read alot about "winmodems" not working or working only 1/4 of the time when you can get'em working.? anyway, I'll try anything to get my modem working on linux. I found a rpm + configure package to do this, but it created a ttyHFO (file?)??? what??? anyway, the modem is your typical 56k v data/fax PCI modem, chipset F-1156IV/R9F? Thanks im stuck.
If you have ttyHFO located in the /dev directory then you just about have it set up. Some driver pkges link /dev/modem to the driver, Your's may not have. To see, try to dial-up. Kppp can query the modem. Put your mouse over /dev/modem to see if it's a symbolic link. If not ,then delete /dev/modem ,then at prompt type,
ln -s /dev/ttyHFO /dev/modem
BTW. Mine works all the time.
