I am trying to install redhat 7.1 on a 40 gb hardisk. I have windows me on a 30 gb partition.Then when i use diskdruid to make a linuxpartition on the remaning 10 gb i got error saying something about the 1024 cylinder and i cant contiune with the installation. It works fine with mandrake 8.0, but I want to install redhat 7.1 instead when mandrake hang my computer all the time. I have a fujjutsi siemens scaleo. am a newbie to linux.

It is a common problem with large capacity hard disk drives. First ensure that LBA mode is activated for the disk in BIOS. Try running another partitioning tool like FIPS or Ranish, and also ensure that, if it is an SCSI disk, then linear mode was chosen when install asked for it.
If the disk already had a FAT partition before, ensure that it has been *completely* defragmented.

The 1024 cylinder message probably refers to the fact that most BIOSes cannot boot past the 1024th cylinder. So if you put the linux partition that contained the boot information past that cylinder, it would not be able to boot
