I am trying to dual boot windows xp and red hat 7.2 on my comp with windows on the first hdd and linux taking up about half of the second hdd, but when i start to install linux and pick manual install and i come to the disk partitioning section of the install it gives me an error message like: The partition table on /tmp/hda is inconsistent. It gives me the same message again after i click cancel for my second hard drive (/tmp/hdb). it says that i can procede with the install if i want to, but it may cause "fixable" errors. so basically, i'd like to know what exactly it means by the partition table being inconsistent and if there is a way to fix it.

Thanks in advance,
AJ

Hi AJ
ive got the same error, i could install all the packages and the grub bootloader into mbr but when i reboot there was no grub. It just boots normally windows.
So iam searching for advice on the redhat documentation but they dont even mention the problem could occur.
In other Forums they say use a Partition Tool like PartitionMagic to repair a filetable. So i did it but nothing changed.

maybe we find someone who can help us or we found
some infos

good luck
martin

Hi,
Actually partition magic works cool but u have to install linux before windows. if u are using windows linux combo then follow this. repartition ur hdd and install windows first and make sure u leave enuff space in partition(logical drives) for linux and linux swap. then go to linux and when it displays the partition change the partition of the logical drives to 83 for linux and 82 for linux swap. Then u will have dual boot. it works on my laptop. try on ur systems.
bye
