i am trying to make a primary partition for linux and i have windows ME currently, and when its in the process of partitioning this comes up......ERROR 2003: File does not match FAT allocation for file, i am using partition magic to do this, and the same thing came up when i tried to partition in red hat auto partition

Are you trying to install Linux on the primary partition? If that's the case, Ican tell you that you'll have boot problems. Windows has to be on the primary partition in order for your bootloader to work properly. I don't know if that would cause you're error message, as I've only set up a dual boot computer with Win 95 and Linux, but it might be an explanation. I hope this helps.
