I'm trying to partition a 2gid HD that has only 800Mg used so I can do a RH Gnome workstation install. Using FIPS I can only squeak out 550Mg. There are some files that WON'T BE MOVED with the windows defrag program. I tried to work around this by using fdisk to partition in hopes that the lost files wouldn't be critical. No such luck. I have restored and all is well.

How do I find the files that are holding me hostage...and then what can I do??

I've already tried a custom install (roughly 380Mg), but it wasn't very stable. I'm getting close to just reformatting the HD but want to make sure I have no other options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I think norton utilities keep some disk images used mainly be speedisk at the end of the disk.Disable them if you have these utils.
