Gday,
I am trying to install a dual boot WinME and Red Hat 7.2 system
I partitioned my hard drive using fdisk off a WinME boot disk.
I created a Primary Dos drive C:
and a logical dos in an extended partition D:I left around 5G of unused space for linux.
When i try to install linux i get an error about my partition table being inconsistant when i try to use Disk Druid. I press ignore at this error and it goes into disk druid.
For some reason the drive setup looks like this/dev/hda
/dev/hda1 (my c: with winME on it)
/dev/hda2 (extended partition)
/dev/hda5 (logical drive d:)
free space 5144MB
*inbetween /dev/hda and /dev/hda1 it says their is <1 free space and between /dev/hda2 and /dev/hda5 it also say <1 free spacewhen i try and make the linux boot partition in the 5G of free space i get an error message
I don't know why it assigns my logical drive /dev/hda5???My lecturer told me today that the /root partition for linux has to be within either hda1 - hda4, so i am guessing this is why i am getting the error when i start disk druid.
Can any one help me with this ?
and can any one help me with fixing this problem of d: drive being /dev/hda5???Thank you

As far as I know, Linux orders partitions by the date they were created and not by their position on the disc (sounds stupid to me). Maybe if you don't have any data on D: (/dev/hda5) you could try deleting that, creating the Linux partition and then re-make that partition again, but I have no idea if this would work.

Use partition magic 7 for windows and create swap and root partition of ur 5GB then u only have to format during linux installation from druid disk it will work

hey guys i have just loaded linux in the machine but by mistake i loaded it on the wrong partion. now i want it to delete .
how to do it ?
