Comment:

I managed to un-tar and un-gun the
opera-5.0-static.tar.gz
file. I am left with:

opera-5.0-static.i386

file. How do I run it?

Thanks

I'm not entirely certain, but generally you'd do

make
make install (as root)

Or you could scrap the tarball and get the rpm (assuming there is one for your distro). you can install it by just clicking on the rpm or install from a shell prompt using
rpm -ivh opera.rpm

Hope that helps.

6.0 or greater is current Opera.
If your Linux uses rpms (try rpm -qa),
Helen is correct. You can google "opera-6 rpm"

Opera doesn't have version 6 yet for Linux, but the static RPM at their site installed easily for me on Mandrake 9 and Lycoris.

Actually, they're up to Opera 6.10 for Linux. In fact, I'm using Opera 6.10 for Linux right now.

Boy, they must have just come out with the new version, because I just downloaded from there last week. Thanks for the update Andrew Ordo. I'll have to give it a try.
