Hi, I'm a MIS Officer.
I'm now starting to use linux but I'm not familiar with it because i use window.
Okay cut the craps, I'm now planing to change half of the computer in my company into open suse 10.1 but i don't know how to configure the settings.

For now i know how to set the network abit and thats all.
If it would be kind if someone can tell me where can i learn about open suse in the internet or teach me the basic settings like:
1) Remote desktop(Linux to Windows/Linux controls windows)
2) FTP (Access another computer's files 'Windows')
3) Install a 'network printer'. If possible can some teach me how to set a Laserjet P1505n printer in open suse.
4) Access files within a workgroup (I got the internet connection but i could not get the workgroup to appear)

I have a question?
Is open suse this slow even with 384MB?

There are other choices, why did you pick openSUSE? And why did you pick 10.1 which is approx 3 yrs old over 11.1 which was released just a few months ago?

"Is open suse this slow even with 384MB?"

384MB isn't much RAM these days. Most OS's will run sluggish with that amount, including WinXP. The minimum requirement for openSUSE is 256MB while the recommended minimum is 512MB.

Which Desktop Environment are you running? Switching to a lighter weight one *should* perk things up a bit but ideally, you need more RAM. Do all the PC's in your company have to "suffer" with just 384MB?

There are plenty of classes out there. Maybe local tech school or community classes. Online schools and self taught books. You should learn how to do your work before you risk data loss or other legal issues where you are supposed to protect data.

As above 11.1 is a better choice. The ram will limit you to text based installs. You can not run that as a server and use a window manager unless you get a lot more ram.

Rdesktop but there are other tools for domains. Can be security issue if not configured.

FTP is not secure. Consider SFTP or ssh and other type of vpns.

Most laserjets are very easy. See cups and other postscript topics.

Workgroup is samba.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Can Open Suse 10.1 upgrade to v11.1 with installing again.
Some of the pc is really low on ram some is only 64-96MB. Actually we wanted to change some the pc to a new pc but the economic is bad so the plan was canceled.
I'm using a Gnome desktop.

Classes and books is out. My Company is quite stingy for the moment. I need a website that teaches all the things that i need to know and also the linux concept.
For the remote desktop and ftp we are running it locally because we have a firewall set at the main router. I want to use the ftp to copy files from another window base pc that has FTP set.
I also want to RDC another window base computer(File Server)locally.

The open suse is for normal use and its not for server nor host for any services.
Any Good Ideas
Thanks.

The only issue is that each distro usually has different terms or ways to do the same task.

Basically I would use a search tool. Use the keywords such as ftp server. Add in linux or opensuse. If you add in linux it might have common how-to's for many distro's. See also Suse doc's for that distro. Opensuse and suse are mostly same. Some searches won't show suse in place of opensuse.

Start here.

http://en.opensuse.org/FTP_Server_H...

See also software already made for that distro.

http://software.opensuse.org/search

As with most distro's you are better off using the tools they use to install software. Linux is a dependency nightmare.
