Hello,
I have a an AOpen AX34 Motherboard with a Onboard AC97 Audio. I am trying
to install sound card support under RedHat Linux 7.0. What do I do?
RESULTS OF THE 'cat /dev/sndstat' COMMAND[root@dyn-209-167-0-189 /]# cat /dev/sdnstat OSS/Free:3.8s2++-971130
Load type: Driver loaded as a module
Kernel: Linux dyn-209-167-0-189.crrstv.net 2.2.16-22 #1 Tue Aug 22 16:49:06
EDT 2000 i686Config options: 0
Installed drivers:
Card config:
Audio devices: 0: VIA 82Cxxx Audio driver 1.1.2.1 (3.02)
Synth devices:
Midi devices:
0: Sound Blaster
1: VIA 82Cxxx Audio driver 1.1.2.1Timers:
0: System clockMixers:
0: via82cxxxAC97Mixer
1: Sound Blaster

I had success on an Aopen board after
upgrading to kernel 2.4.2 via sound is
support in the latest kernel, whereas I dont
think it is in the 2.2.16 build which is
standard in RH7

I had similar problems with the OSS drivers, but using ALSA drivers the audio works fine(except for some noise on the left channel...)
Bye
