Comment:

I am looking for a good distro that is both modern, and will run quickly on an older computer. I am talking p133 class with 32mb RAM and small hard drives (less than a gig). I am currently downloading "DeLi" but i am wondering if there are any others.

I want to throw an old computer together for my parents. The smaller the better, but it has to have a GUI and support things like staroffice, or whatever other office type programs there are that are comparable to Microsoft office.

hi,

First of all, if you wanna run X applications such as OpenOffice, Mozilla, I strongly recommend you to have 64MB at least. With 32MB you can run X applications but they'll run pretty slowwwwly.

Although you've got an old computer, you can still run one of the major Linux distros such as Red Hat, Debian or Slackware.

Just download an old version such as Red Hat Linux 6.2.

Go to www.redhat.com and look for a mirror. Most mirrors (.edu specially) have form old to new releases.

I hope this works for you.

Happy New Year 2003,
